Scalping refers to super short-term trading, specifically trades where the holding time is within 1 minute and the profit or loss is just a few pips. Super short-term trading is exciting, with gains and losses completed in an extremely short time, making it suitable for traders who lack patience. However, a word of caution here: if you consider your trading skills to be average, it is best not to engage in scalping. Moreover, based on what the author has heard, there is no known case of anyone becoming wealthy or famous through scalping — at least not yet.
Among the many forex brokers, some allow scalping, some have certain restrictions on super short-term trading, and some forex brokers prohibit scalping entirely.
How do you find out which brokers allow super short-term trading? The best approach is to send an email and ask. What should you say? Simply ask: do you allow scalping on your platform, by which I mean holding a position for less than 1 minute. If the broker has no your language version, ask in English: “Do you allow scalping? By scalping I mean holding a position for less than 1 minute.”
You’ll get one of four types of replies. The first is from large forex brokers such as FXCM and GAIN Capital, whose reply goes something like this: we allow all trading strategies, including scalping. The second type is from brokers such as Iicmcapital and HY Market, whose reply is: we allow scalping, but it will be monitored, or once it is deemed “too extreme,” we will issue a warning to the trader. What exactly counts as “too extreme” remains unclear. The third type includes brokers like Easy-Forex, which requires a minimum holding time of more than 30 seconds, and FXOpen, which requires a minimum holding time of more than 1 minute. The last type includes brokers like Markets.com, which prohibit scalping entirely.
If you want to engage in scalping, you can only choose brokers that gave the first type of response.
In addition, some brokers publicly announce that they warmly welcome short-term traders and scalpers. Below are a few brokers with relatively low spreads that encourage scalping, recommended for reference by super short-term traders.
